During centuries, the Church and many artists have tried to communicate the Gospel through « images » of Jesus. Stained-glass windows, mosaics, paintings, illuminations of « books of hours », sculptures, theater performances, cinema and television in each of the arts, the authors modelled the Christ according to their vision, the representation often according to the tradition, sometimes by daring to venture into an iconography which made scandal.

Let us look at the representation of Jesus by some film-makers. The exercise could lead us to explore our own imagination. What is the representation which we have ourselves of Jesus?

First step:

Do you want to follow us in this exercise? Then, for first step, write and describe yourself the Christ, such as you imagine Him. What is for you its physical aspect? Is He tall? Has He blue eyes?

What are the main aspects of his character? 

The film-makers, by choosing the actor who was going to represent Jesus, by guiding the actor, had in mind a representation of Jesus, imagined his character.

Let us have a look at some actors who played the role of Jesus.
